Proteas now obsessed with Indian new Spin Twins, Superman Kohli looks ruthless

After losing Test Series 2-1 to South Africa, India bounced back in ODI series. In a 6-match ODI series, India have taken an unprecedented 3-0 lead in the series, which moves to Johannesburg for the fourth ODI on Saturday, 10th instant. Two-three weeks ago all we are shouting against Virat Kohli and team management as they were performing very poorly in the first two Test matches, and now India is dominating South Africa in this on-going ODI series! Red-hot Run-Machine skipper Virat Kohli scored two centuries and another 46 not out in this ODI series till now. Everything is going now in India's way! Cricket is such a uncertain game!

The new Indian wrist-spinning pair of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have tormented South Africa's batsmen and accounted for 21 of the 28 wickets that India have taken across three ODIs.

On the other hand, the current South African team, ranked second in ODIs, has been hit hard by injuries to their captain Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock. In the first game, du Plessis carried the home team with a fine 120 before he was ruled out of the series with a fractured finger. The wicketkeeper-batsman Q. de Kock followed after suffering a left wrist injury during the second ODI, while AB de Villiers only returned to the lineup for the fourth ODI having recovered from a finger injury. And with Hashim Amla enduring a poor series - not once has he made it out of the Powerplay - the home team has been left with very little batting power.

  • Reasons behind India's Success in ODI
1. India's Batting is looking very solid. Yes, Rohit Sharma didn't score much in these 3 ODIs, but he is in good touch. Shikhar Dhawan is playing so well as white ball is not moving much like red balls in Test. Rahane played a superb innings in first ODI. And then, our skipper Virat Kohli is just imperious! He is just in such a kind of form that he can hit anything out of the park when he wishes. He can chase any target at ease and he can set a large target too! In first ODI while chasing 270 runs Virat scored an outstanding 112 runs (33rd ODI ton)and in third ODI he scored a stunning 160 runs (34th ODI ton) and set a 303 runs target for RSA single-handedly! South African bowlers found it very difficult as Virat Kohli is scoring centuries like every now and then!

2. B-B factor: Bhuvi & Bumrah. These two fast bowlers are giving a good start to India. In first 10 overs, they are taking 1 or 2 wickets regularly. And in death, they are the best bowlers of the world! In these series they have taken 7 wickets so far.

3. X Factor- New Spin Twins: Virat Kohli has openly expressed his fondness for wrist spinners on numerous occasions, and after gaining an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the six-match ODI series against South Africa, the India skipper feels the duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav will prove to be "massive X-factor" in the 2019 ICC World Cup. Chahal and Kuldeep have so far accounted for 21 wickets between them at an average of 9.05, in the three matches so far.
Kohli backed his wrist spinners saying the duo may get sometimes be belted for runs, but going by the way they bowl, both could turn out to be massive X-factor for the men-in-blue during the World Cup in England next year.

Bamboozled by Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav in the ongoing ODI series, South Africa middle-order batsman JP Duminy said the Proteas need to go back to the drawing board and re-work their plan to tackle the Indian wrist-spin duo. Proteas found it so difficult to pick the googlies and other variations like top spin, flippers of these spin-twins. Specially rare species chinaman spinner (chinaman = left arm leg-spin) Kuldeep Yadav totally mystified South African batsmen as they failed to pick which ball would spin in which side! Most importantly, this spin twins are getting success in South African dead pitches, where there is not much help for the spinners.

If we look at the statistics, then we will see wrist spinners (leg spinners or chaina-man) are more successful than the finger spinners (Off-spinners or left arm orthodox) after the World Cup 2015, because of the rule changes in modern ODI cricket.

And India is blessed that they have two wrist spinners and their numbers are also fantastic! And this is the reason, Ashwin and Jadeja are out of the ODI team after the Champions Trophy final.

Indian captains always have their own spin-twins. Ganguly has Kumble-Harbhajan, Dhoni has Ashwin-Jadeja. And now Kohli has Chahal-Kuldeep. But till now Chahal & Kuldeep are producing outstanding results! This new spin twins of India, Chahal and Kuldeep, when they are playing together, then their numbers are really exceptional! They are the main key of India's success!

Like a lot of you, I have been fascinated watching the combination of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav to bowl right arm wrist spin and left arm wrist spin. It is being fantastic to watch them under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. Experienced Dhoni is also there behind the wicket to guide them.

Hope they will rise and shine and will go to epitome of their career under skipper Virat and guide Dhoni.

I hope India will win this series 4-2 or 5-1 margin. I will come back soon with more stories.
