A journey from Wriddhiman to Superman (by Arpita Mishra)

In 2014 when the IPL Final started most of the Kolkata-n cricket lovers were supporting KKR. But scenerio started to change as the match proceeded. After 5th may again Bengal divided into two halves. One who wanted their city to win the trophy for the second time and the other half were praying for the success of their 'own' son…

In Cricket, after Sourav Ganguly who has this much power to attract the attention of this city is none other than Wriddhiman Saha. Yes,this is true that KKR had won the match but Bengal found their new hero to boast about.

We always see the success, but never tried to look for the struggle and sacrifices which actually build the way to success. No one is a born hero. Hero are they who create their path through the ashes like a phoenix.

Wriddhiman Saha born in a place named Saktigarh near Siliguri on this day in 1984. He was a keen student of cricket who decided to leave the comfort zone of his own house at the age of 14 and came to Kolkata with a dream on his eyes to establish himself as a cricketer. His 3 D's - discipline, determination & dedication towards the game made him so focused that the congested and suffocating rooms of Koley market never distracted him from his goal.

In 2007 he started his career as a first class cricketer & proved his worth behind as well as in front of the wickets. Later in 2010 he got his national Test Cap against South Africa.

His effort behind the wickets, his attempts towards every ball and hos flying catches earned him the title of 'Superman'.

Wriddhi's career in brief:

One day Internationals-

Match-9,innings-5, runs-41, highest-16, Average- 13.66,  strike rate- 73.21,

Ct- 17, st-1

First class-

Match-108, innings-167, runs-5918, highest-203*, Average- 42.57,  strike rate- 48.23, 50s- 32 ,100s-13.

Ct- 280, st-33

List A-

Match-100, innings-88, runs-2963, highest-116, Average- 42.74, 50s- 19 ,100s-2.
Ct- 123, st-15

T-20 Career-

Match-175, innings-148, runs-2840, highest-115*, Average- 24.27,  strike rate-130.21 , 50s- 14 ,100s-1.

Ct- 94, st-27

These gray stats are not enough to judge Wriddhiman Saha. He is very much down to earth nature and a nice human being off the field. He has achieved a lot but the success could not detach him from his root. His polite behavior, soft spoken nature lift him up as a human being. In this regard we can recall Sachin Tendulkar's father's word where he told his son to be a good human being above a good cricketer. Because at the end of the day people will remember the behaviors, not the achievements (“Playing it my Way”). Wriddhiman Saha follow this in every way possible. That’s why proud Siliguri people still waits for their little 'Papali', not the national player Wriddhiman Saha.

On his 34th birthday, Front Foot blog is wishing him a very happy birthday and a speedy recovery from his injuries. Like all his fans we are eagerly waiting to see the "Bengal-Eagle" jumping behind the stumps.
